2014 Competition: Fogarty Fellowships

These 11-month fellowships provide outstanding opportunities for highly motivated individuals to experience mentored research training at top-ranked, NIH-funded research centers in East Africa. Each year the fellowships begin with an intensive orientation program in July, followed by mentored clinical research training at international partner institutions.

Opportunities for an 11-month fellowship through the University of Minnesota are available at our research sites in Kenya and Uganda* and focus on critical, inter-related areas of health in low-income countries:

Cryptococcal meningitis Malaria and other infectious diseases One Health/Zoonotic disease
HIV Neurodevelopment Sickle cell disease
Iron deficiency and nutrition Neonatal health  






* It may be possible for applicants to arrange for training available at our Consortium research partner sites.


The Consortium 

The NIH Fogarty-funded Northern/Pacific Global Health Research Fellows Training Consortium offers mentored clinical research training experiences in low– and middle–income countries to post-doctorate and doctoral students in the health professions. The purpose of the program is to provide outstanding mentored research training to post-doctorate trainees and doctoral students at six international partner institutions with robust clinical research programs.

The Northern/Pacific Global Health Research Fellows Training Consortium is a partnership between the Universities of Washington, Hawaii, Michigan, and Minnesota.
